Moanataiari School Reports Part 2 (20.08.12)

SCHOOL COMMUNITY FOCUS

The Moanataiari School Report for Years 1 to 3

In addition to the changes we have and will be making in the Year 4 to 8 reports we are also making changes to our reporting system for our junior students.  The National Standards require that we report to parents twice a year including at the end of each full year your child has been at school.  This continues up until they have been at school for 120 weeks or 3 years.  With children starting school constantly during the school year this means that your child’s anniversary may come up at different times to their classmates.  To help make this more manageable we have developed a system where we will write reports and hold parent conferences once a term for all children whose anniversary falls during that term.

What you need to know:

·       You will still receive two reports each year on your child’s progress against the National Standards.
·       There will still be parent interviews to discuss your child’s progress.
·       One report will be an ‘interim report’.  This is designed to inform you how your child is progressing towards the national standard for their age and how you can help them achieve this.
·       An interim report will be received after 20, 60 and 100 weeks of schooling.

·       The other report will be a ‘final’ report.  This is designed to inform you of whether or not your child has met the national standard for their age and how you can help them in the future.
·       A final report will be received after 40, 80 and 120 weeks of schooling.

As a guide to when you can expect to receive a report for your child for 2012-2013 please see the table below.

e.g. If your child started school at 5 years old in July they will receive their first interim report (20 weeks) in Term 1 of the next year and a second report in Term 3 (after 1 full year at school).

If you are still unsure or would like to chat further about what this means for your child, you are welcome to talk to your child’s teacher. We would encourage you to come and talk to us about the report. Tell us what you do not like or understand. Tell us what you would like to see changed. We are always open to dialogue.
